Pysanky is the Ukrainian Art of egg decorating using beeswax and dyes. The word comes from the verb pysaty, “to write”, as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax. Pysanka is often taken to mean any type of decorated egg, but it specifically refers to an egg created by the written-wax method utilizing traditional folk motifs and designs. In addition, there are ritualistic and magical elements involved in which gifting and celebrating these eggs calls out to the gods and goddesses for health, fertility, love, wealth and so much more.I encourage you to google Pysanka Ukrainian Eggs to see the most beautiful hand decorated eggs on the planet.

My Pysanka Egg celebrates the tradition of Ukrainian egg decorating using off-loom bead weaving techniques to build a decorated structural beaded Egg. The primary stitches used are peyote and netting stitches. The necklace strap is made using modified chenille stitch and built off of a Bezeled Beaded structural ring. Bead Loop and a Beaded Button are used for the necklace closure.

Skill Level- Intermediate to Advanced. Students are expected to have experience making off-loom beadwork projects and be proficient using peyote and netting stitches. The modified chenille stitch will be taught in class.
